Aww, having just finished Kylie Scott's "Twist," it's only reinforced that I really can't get enough of this author's humour. I have a big, cheesy grin on my face, my heart feels full to bursting and I feel completely satisfied that I've read a bloom' good book. Before I continue though, I would like to say that in my opinion, the concept for the story line wasn't necessarily an original one. However, I do feel that this author definitely put her own spin it, switching things up a bit and allowing the characters to put their own stamp on the plot, adding their own brand of uniqueness to ensure the book kept me hooked.
With all the body-shaping underwear, lip gloss, heels, and tiny dress,
you could almost say I’d been fibbing about who I was. His lie, however ,
left my Spanx and push-up bra way behind.
"Twist" was a prime example of when online dating can go horribly wrong but ends up being oh so freakin' right. Now I'm not condoning what Joe did but bless him, I loved his reaction when the proverbial hit the fan. Joe was definitely not a conventional kind of guy. Oh no, Joe owned his mistake, was completely guilt ridden by what he had done and tried desperately to make amends. He really was one in a million and had a heart of gold. However, Alex was not going to let him get away with it quite so easily. After all, she felt humiliated. Alex wasn't one for relationships. She didn't do commitment. She was a one night stand, scratch the itch kind of girl so when she took a chance and stepped way out of her comfort zone, the reality of the situation truly felt like a slap in the face.
Once my guard was down, due to complete and utter exhaustion,
Joe had cuddled me. It was terrible, disgusting. Fingers caressing me,
lips pressing soft kisses to my shoulder and the back of my neck.
Normally I’d never allow it, but it felt so good.
Alex's character was fantastic. She was strong and funny but equally there was a bit of a vulnerable side to her that I completely got. Joe really was the perfect match for her because he was everything she didn't realise she needed in a man. He was always there for her, supporting her and encouraging her and helping her realise her potential but doing it in a way that wasn't over bearing or domineering. How could I not love that.
“Who needs that much hair? On your head, your face,
the bits on your chest … it’s all too much.”
His brows drew tight. “That so?”
“Why, I bet there’s a jungle down there. Tell me, Joe,
have you had any complaints? Is the tiger getting lost?”
The push and pull between Alex and Joe made for compulsive reading. The banter between the two, Alex's inner conflict that came with a healthy dose of sarcasm and wit. And not forgetting of course the should they? Shouldn't they? Will they? Won't they? And this was a truly fab read.
This wasn't just a light hearted, funny read though. There was a side order of angst and heart break which balanced things out and slotted in perfectly. Oh and not forgetting the guest appearances of many a character I'd grown to know and love from previous books in this series and the "Stage Dive" series.
Alone was safe and oh so comfortable.
Another great addition to this series. Roll on Eric's story in "chaser." that will definitely be an interesting one.
