Blog Tour: CD Reiss's "Separation Games (The Games Duet #2)."

The Hopeless Romantics Book Blog are pleased to be part of the Blog Tour for CD Reiss's "Separation Games (The Games Duet #2)."

Synopsis

The stunning conclusion to the New York Times Bestseller.

These are the unbreakable rules in the game.
Stay collected. Compartmentalize. Think your next move through. Never let your heart dictate your tactics.

The heart is impulsive.
The heart makes bad decisions.
The heart doesn’t see the long game.

Because the heart may have decided to get Adam back, but when the endgame comes, the heart’s going to be the first thing to break.

Review: Jo

I have been swept away by this book. In my opinion it is CD Reiss's best work yet. I have loved every single word that graced the pages of "Separation Games."

"This is worth it. He is worth it. Hold your breath.
Hold it for 1,209,600 seconds. Then. Breathe.
Because he will be yours."

Following the way that the previous book had ended, I could hardly wait to begin the final instalment of this mesmerising duet. I was looking forward to discovering what happened next for Adam and Diana, but at the same time I was feeling apprehensive at what lay ahead.

"No matter what the level of our hearts' betrayal,
our souls knew where we belonged."

Reading this concluding part, made me feel so many things and there were many times that I was overcome with despair for Adam and Diana as they struggled to hold onto their marriage. I wanted so much for their relationship to work, but they were driving me crazy with how their story was playing out. I truly felt that this was a brilliant representation of how a relationship can go wrong as well as the challenges that staying together can bring. Obviously, not all couples have the BDSM element in their lives but there can be many other obstacles that couple's face and I could wholeheartedly resonate with the way that Adam and Diana handled their situation.

"As every step pulled me farther,
the tether between us got thin enough to break."

There were many moments during this story when I realised that Adam and Diana both wanted different things. Everything was going drastically wrong for the pair and my heart was breaking in two. It was so sad watching two people that feel so strongly for each other fall apart but I believed that there was still so much love between Adam and Diana. The way that they continued to fight, refusing to give up easily was enough proof of this for me. This gave me a glimmer of hope in the story which delighted me no end and I was convinced that there was still a chance for Adam and Diana.

"I breathed my gratitude and fell asleep
with the shape of his kiss burned into my cheek."

CD's writing is in a league of it's own, The way in which she tells a story is so different to any other author that I have read. Each sentence is uniquely crafted making an elegant and spellbinding story. This author continues to amaze me with each new book that she writes. I am in awe of CD Reiss's work and I cannot wait to read her next novel. I am sure it will be as equally as stunning and perfect as this series.

"We would hold our worlds together with ribbon of love."

I could not recommend this duet enough and it gets 5 hearts from me.

Excerpt

He took my hand, putting it in his lap as if it was finally home. “What are we doing?” he asked.

“Screwing up.”

“Like it’s our job.”

“If you’re going to do something, I say, do it all the way.”

He squeezed my hand. I was jarred by the way he looked in the direction of the window, but not through it. He didn’t look like the commanding Dominant who had been my partner for the past few weeks. As handsome as ever, and graceful and sharp, a leader and a decider, but not the same.

He faced me. “I don’t know how to fix this.”

The streetlights glinted off the light in one eye and his jaw locked, catching things he’d never say. He looked like a man I knew and abandoned. Manhattan Adam.

“We can’t fix it,” I said, putting his hand in my lap, watching our clasped hands make a new form. I rubbed the outside of his thumb with mine, feeling it’s familiar shape, the strength of the knuckle and the texture of his skin on mine. “We have to build something new. And we can.” I looked up from our hands to his face.

Could I make him feel my optimism? Could I take a piece of it onto a fork and lift it to his lips? Would they part? Would he let me lay it on his tongue? Would he chew and swallow, saying “I do. I do believe we can, I do.”

He didn’t say that. He didn’t believe, but his lips needed to touch my belief and his tongue needed to taste my hope.

I don’t know if I kissed him or if he kissed me, but it felt like a first kiss, with full quivering that left me paralyzed at his nearness. The act of two tongues tasting each other was so intimate between strangers, so taken for granted over time, and so rarely is the wonder of it felt through to the bone.

He was licorice. Fennel and leather. And he moved like cool water, reacting to my movements, countering with his hands and his mouth, covering me with his attention. The kiss was the sway of sex, the smell of it, the carnal desire without the promise of anything but another dance.

About the Author

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestselling author. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn't pick up, she's at the well, hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master's degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere, but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

Critics have dubbed the books "poetic," "literary," and "hauntingly atmospheric," which is flattering enough for her to put it in a bio, but embarrassing enough for her not to tell her husband, or he might think she's some sort of braggart who's too good to chop a cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.
